ABOUT THE INSTITUTION OF ENGINEERS (INDIA)
The Institution of Engineers (India) is the largest multidisciplinary professional body of 2 Lakh engineers that encompasses 15 engineering discipline s and gives engineers a global platform from where to share professional interest.Established in 1920, with its headquarter at Kolkata. IEI has served the engineering fraternity for over nine decades. In1935, IEI was incorporated by Royal Charter and remains the only professionals body in India to be accorded this honour. Today, its quest for professional excellence has given it a place of pride in almost every prestigious and relevant organization across the globe. IEI functions among professional engineers, academicians and research workers.
It provides a vast array of technical, professional and supporting services to the Government, Industries, Academia and the Engineering fraternity, operating from 125 Centres located across the Country. In addition to that IEI has 6O verseas Chapters in the Middle-East. Besides the above thereare 8 entities like Safety and Quality Forum, Sustainable Development Forum, National Design & Research Forum,Water Management Forum, Rural Development Forum, Engineering Staff College of India, Disaster Awareness & Management Forum and National Skill Development Forum, who regularly conducts continuing education programmes and awareness generation activities on contemporary issues.
IEI is Member of various international professional bodies like World Federation of Engineering Organisations, World Energy Council, World Mining Congress, Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia and Pacific, Federation of Engineers Institution of South and Central Asia and manyother professional Societies and Associations in the World and is contributing to the betterment of world society as a whole. Itis indeed an honour that IEI has received the permanent membership of International Professional Engineers Agreement, IPEA (formally the Engineers Mobility Forum) which enables mobility and gives recognisation to Indian Engineers.
